Close to 1000
Equipment: a deck of cards with the face cards and jokers removed; ace = 1
Shuffle the cards and deal 6 cards to each player. Use all 6 of your cards to make two 3-digit numbers. Try to make numbers that when added together are close to or exactly 1000. Your score is how far you are away from 1000. (The lower your score, the better!)
Example:
Player 1 turns over:
Player 1 combines 483 and 513 to make 996 which is only 4 away from 1000! Score 4 points for Round 1.
Player 2 turns over:
Player 2 combines 576 and 419 to make 995 which is only 5 away from 1000! Score 5 points for Round 1.
Put the cards you used in a discard pile. Pick up 6 more cards for Round 2. Play 5 rounds, add your scores. The player with the lowest score after 5 rounds wins.
You can also play by yourself. Record the results of each round in your journal:
Example: "Round 1: 483 + 513 = 996 Score 4 points"
Version 2: For a challenge, keep the face cards (jacks, queens and kings) in the deck. They are WILD cards which can stand for any digit 0 - 9.
